Even in Winter, Make Time to Chill
You know, I spend a lot of time on this blog suggesting ways you can “de-stress” (and shorten) your workday. I’ve covered everything from helping you plan a golf tournament (which can be intimidating) to concrete workday tools like marketing enablement and print on demand.
Naturally, I think managing your print supply chain is also critical to your business success. But today, I’d like to talk to you about another very important stress-fighting tool: attitude.
Ten Quotes to Tame Tension
Your workday is probably chaotic. Plenty of responsibilities nagging at you, and you have only about half the time you need to get everything done. It may be counter-intuitive (sorry for the 50-cent word) but sometimes the best way to use a few of those precious moments is to take a breath, slow the anxiety, and reflect on your good fortune to have so much going on.
I’ve collected ten quotes from famous people that might help you do that. I don’t think Marcus Aurelius and Brian Tracy ever hung out together, but all the folks below share a common appreciation for how important a calm, grateful attitude can be to making your day turn out well, no matter what happens.
-
“Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.” —Hermann Hesse
-
“I’ve decided to be happy because it is good for my health.” –Voltaire
-
“If the problem can be solved why worry? If the problem cannot be solved worrying will do you no good.” —Shantideva
-
“The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it”. —Sydney J. Harris
-
“Set peace-of-mind as your highest goal, and organize your life around it.” —Brian Tracy
-
“Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.” —William Burroughs
-
“Your calm mind is the ultimate weapon against your challenges. So relax.” —Bryant McGill
-
“When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive–to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.” —Marcus Aurelius
-
“Remember that stress doesn’t come from what’s going on in your life. It comes from your thoughts about what’s going on in your life.” —Andrew J. Bernstein
-
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” —Lao Tzu
I think we ought to pay attention when a piece of wisdom is embraced by both modern business gurus and ancient Chinese philosophers. Not to mention NFL quarterbacks. (Huh?)
“R-E-L-A-X” — and Call Us
I didn’t add it to my list (especially since I know most of you aren’t Green Bay Packer fans) but maybe you remember. A few years back, Packer fans whined when the team started a season poorly, and QB Aaron Rodgers famously advised fans to R-E-L-A-X. It was good advice then (the team won its division that year) and it’s a good message for all of us in business.
Usually I end my posts talking about our ISO certification and our four-year “winning streak” for a prestigious customer service award. But today, I’m going to “relax” that trend and just suggest you sign up for our print and promo newsletter.
You’ll find a good mix of interesting topics, helpful business-building suggestions and occasionally a list of what I hope are encouraging words, like today’s post. After all, in today’s hectic environment, peace of mind just might be your best power tool.
